JU Campus-Ramnagar organises seminar on 'Women Empowerment in India'

Jammu, Apr 24: Department of Sociology Ramnagar Campus, University of Jammu organized one day seminar on Women Empowerment in India: Challenges and Social Constraints in Ramnagar Campus.
R S Pathania MLA, Ramnagar was the Chief-Guest on the occasion in which large number of students, faculty members and eminent citizens of the area were present.
Prof RajniDhingra, Head, Department of Home Science and Dean, Faculty of Sciences, University of Jammu and Prof. Abha Chauhan, Head, Department of Sociology, University of Jammu were the main speakers.
The programme started with lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest which was followed by the other activities of the event.
In his address R S Pathania, MLA, Ramnagar stated that the status of women in India have changed over the times. He said the in the Vedic period women were enjoying equality with men but it started declining during the in the medieval period and in the modern period women are facing the different atrocities in daily life. He stressed on the economic, social and political empowerment of women in India and especially the rural women. He encouraged the women to have access of the different schemes and policy of women empowerment.
Earlier Prof Rajni Kant, Director, Ramnagar Campus and Chief-Coordinator Off-site Campuses, University of Jammu presented formal welcome address. In his address he highlighted the women of today in India are excelling in the different fields of society. He also appreciated the Beeti Padao Beeti Bacchao campaign for encouraging girls for education.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Rajni Dhingra spoke on Empowering Women: Focussing on Gender Socialisation. She argued that gender discrimination exist in Indian society because of gender role socialization. Prof Abha Chauhan highlighted that there are stereotypes and orthodox mind set existing in society which discriminates women. She stressed that the voices from below need to be highlighted and women must be given freedom from patriarchal structure of society.
Ms Shreeya Bakshi, Faculty, Sociology, coordinated the programme. Ajay Kumar, Faculty, Sociology presented formal vote of thanks in inaugural session while Ms Monica, faculty MCA, presented vote of thanks in the second technical session.
Vinod, Aditya, Abhimanyu, MsPrakriti, Ms Sonia, MsRajni, Ms Meenakshi, Ms Himani. Principal GDC, Ramnagar Prof Kusum Gupta and other faculty members of Ramnagar college attended the seminar.
