Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 2: As the time for shortlisting names for appointments in various prestigious Commissions, Boards and Corporations by government is drawing near, war of nerves has begun between two senior ministers of BJP who are up to grind own axe for furthering their personal political ambitions. Once close confidantes , Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and Bali Bhagat are learnt to be on warpath at present.
Sources said that notwithstanding the fact that both the leaders have come from same ideology, rather same school of thought ABVP and until formation of government were ardent supporters of each other, the relations have stiffened to the extent that they have started slashing the political space and ground for ensuring their strong position in the echelons of power in future. Sources said the story of one up manship between the duo started when BJP was in the process of finalizing name for the post of Deputy Chief Minister at the time of formation of government. Much before Dr Singh's name became the final choice, Bali Bhagat too tried to grind his own axe for clinching the prized posting and he tried to convince the central leadership on at least two counts, sources added.
Bali Bhagat sources further said tried to put weight for his name in the backdrop of the fact that previous coalition government of NC-Congress too had the Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand having SC background and what according to him justified this was the fact again that BJP had enabled to get a pretty good tally of 25 seats due to victory of as many SC candidates. Bali Bhagat camped in Delhi for quite some time to get this rationale through so that he could clinch the post of Deputy Chief Minister. However, this could not work as it was Dr Nirmal Singh who eventually 'managed' to play his cards well for the same. Nevertheless, this resulted in a wedge between two close friends and supporters which has widened as on date to the extent that Dr Nirmal Singh is now allegedly playing games to cut Bhagat to size.
Sources said in order to ensure that he has no parallel political leader in competition, Dr Nirmal Singh is projecting the names at least two leaders from the constituency Raipur-Domanna for the names being shortlisted for appointments in Corporations , Commissions and Boards. These include ex MLA Bharat Bhushan and Bansi Lal Bharti, both of whom have contested from the constituency at present represented by Bali Bhagat. All this is being done as a game of ensuring safe survival in future, sources added.
