Geelani speaks for Pak, says India must demilitarize J&K
Cat is out of the bag

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 2: India needed a definite proof against pro-Pakistan Sued Ali Shah Geelani and it got it on April 15 and again on May 1. On April 15, another Pakistani conduit Masarat Alam organized anti-India rally near Srinagar Airport to accord welcome to Syed Ali Shah Geelani, where anti-India and pro-Pak and pro-independence slogans were raise and Pakistani flags unfurled. Geelani also addressed the rally and provoked anti-India and pro-Pakistan sentiments. Alam was ultimately rearrested under the nationalist pressure, but Geelani was allowed to go scot-free despite the fact that the nation also wanted the authorities to arrest him under the charge of sedition.
On Friday, as expected, Geelani crossed the line and openly spoke for Pakistan and demanded for the people of Kashmir the right to self-determination. Addressing a pro-Pakistan rally at Tral, Geelani said Pakistan was ready to go for demilitarization of the so-called Azad Kashmir (Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir) if India implements the United Nations resolutions on the state. "Pakistan is ready to demilitarize Azad Kashmir if the UN resolutions are implemented to resolve the Kashmir dispute. People of Kashmir should be given their inalienable right to self determination," he said, and added that "right to self determination according to the UN resolutions is the only way to resolve the Kashmir dispute". "Pakistan has been saying it will remove forces from Azad Kashmir and give people a choice to vote. Demilitarization should take place from Jammu and Kashmir, especially from residential areas. People have been killed, women raped and property damaged by the Indian armed forces in J&K," he also said.
He spoke a white lie when he said that Pakistan had all along said that it was prepared to demilitarize POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan provided New Delhi was willing to withdraw its troops from this part of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has never said so. On the contrary, it has consistently violated the UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. It violated the UN resolution when it refused to vacate the aggression as required by the UN resolutions. It ruthlessly violated the UN resolutions when it annexed Gilgit-Baltistan to Pakistan. It again violated the UN resolutions when it ceded part of Jammu and Kashmir territories to China and allowed it to construct roads and highways in Gilgit-Baltistan. It violated the UN resolution by changing the demographic makeup of Gilgit-Baltistan by settling their Pathans and other Sunnis. It violated the UN resolution by changing the demography of POJK by settling their Pathans, Afridis and who not.
Remember, the UN resolutions didn't require India to withdraw its troops from POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. In fact, it asked Pakistan to do so and said plebiscite would be held in the entire state after peace was restored in the entire state as it existed on August 15, 1947. The resolutions allowed India to maintain its troops in POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
What Geelani and others of his ilk are saying is not important. What is important is how India responds? There is not one, but three unanimous parliamentary resolutions which emphatically say that Jammu and Kashmir was, is and shall always remain integral part of India. These are the national resolves which needed to be honoured sooner than later. In fact, this is the only option available to set things right in the Valley. Things in Kashmir are turning from bad to worse. It would be only desirable if the authorities rose to the occasion and assert the Indian authority. We cannot wait for some more time. To wait for some more time would be only to help these handful of Pakistani agents to cause an irreparable damage to India and its people in Jammu and Kashmir.
