SRINAGAR, June 21: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has appealed Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to re-strategize the follow up with the Central Government so that adequate relief package is given to the flood victims of the state. The chamber said that CM should have proper consideration of the ground realities and the sufferings of flood victims.
KCC&I Joint Secretary General, Faiz Bakshi while quoting the chamber President, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad said that Finance Minister, Haseeb Drabu's welcome of recent 'meagre' package announced by Government of India recently tantamount to adding insult to injury to the people who lost everything due to the ravaging flood.
"It is for a shock to read the reaction expressed by Finance Minister while advocating the genuineness of short term release of rehabilitation package amounting of 1667 crores. It is worth reminding Finance Minister, the articles written by him before wearing the robe of Finance Minister on post flood situation faced by the people of Kashmir and the need for announcement of immediate revival and rehabilitation package by the Government of India," said Faiz.
The KCC&I Joint Secretary General said that Mufti should approach New Delhi with a rejuvenated thinking with a fresh strategy in mind. He said that since Government of India has failed the flood hit people it is important that the state government pursues its plan of rehabilitation with force with New Delhi.
Faiz said that it is unbelievable that double speak on part of Drabu that after taking over as Finance Minister Rs. 44,000 crore proposal started looking unrealistic to him. He said that since the present state government had avowed and stood committed to reach relief to the victims within short time of their taking over the government it is more that they stand by their commitment.
"Contrary to their statement it is after eight months that a short term relief amounting to peanuts against the losses suffered has been released by the Government of India and Drabu has welcomed the release with enthusiasm. The speed and percentage of the relief is so disappointing and Finance Minister shall have to explain the sufferers as to how long will it take the Government of India to work out the final rehabilitation package. The way the relief rehabilitation package for the people of Kashmir is being handled by Finance Minister is quite disenchanting," said KCC&I, Joint Secretary General.
