Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 20: Contrary to tall claims of Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh that necessary steps have been taken to sort out problem of frequent power cuts in sweltering heat the residents of Miransahib, Indira Colony, Gadigarh and Karan Bagh are still facing unscheduled curtailment of power of 14 -16 hours.
The residents of this area also alleged that without any legal formality, the influential people with the involvement of PDD employees have established numerous illegal AC connections, resulting in a situation where the gullible common people have been compelled to spend sleepless night for the last 10 days and the department concerned seemed unbothered about it.
Sources informed Early Times that due to illegal AC connections which were established with the involvement of PDD's employees the underprivileged section of population have been denied the benefits of electricity and are compelled to spendsleepless night in sweltering heat.
A resident of Gaddigarh alleged that a big nexus is going on between influential people and the lower ranks employees of PDD, the lineman earning huge money by illegal manner and result of which residents are facing acute hardships on account of fluctuation of power and low voltage.
"The employees have been demanding that Rs. 4000 as corruption to establish illegal AC connections against the flat rate of Rs. 9000 per season which were fixed by the PDD for set up new AC," said sources adding that illegal charged money was going into the pocket of the officials from bottom to top.
Amreek Singh, resident of Gadigarh said that the department concerned rather than nab the accused linemen who are involved in the nexus to setup illegal AC connections, the department has been encouraging to collect more money , adding, "We repeatedly apprised the higher officials, but all in vain", he said.
Pointing towards callousness and prevailing alleged corruption in the PDD, the residents of a Ban Sultan said that due to overloading and illegal ACs connection, the transformer (100 kva) has gone kaput five times in a week and the department concerned has been seemed unbothered about it.
We repeatedly appealed to department concerned that due to overloading the transformer had gone kaput, so increasing the capacity of transformer-100 KV to 220 KV but the department rather than increasing the capacity, has been installed the same.
