Prof. Kamta Prasad delivers lecture on 'Environment Impact Assessment in India' 7/10/2015 11:25:26 PM Early Times Report JAMMU, July 10: Prof. Kamta Prasad, Chairman, Institute of Resource Management and Economic Development and Former President of Indian Economic Association delivered an expert lecture on "Environment Impact Assessment in India". Prof. Prasad who has been a Professor of Economics at Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi and I.I.T. Kanpur, is an authority on this subject highlighted the importance of Article 21of the Constitution relating to Fundamental Right to life and the conflict between development projects and environment as well as the need to strike a balance between the two. He also emphasized the need to find out mitigation measures to offset and neutralize adverse effects of development projects on the environment. He also gave the chronological sequence of development since 1974 when environmental clearance for mega projects was made mandatory in India. He also highlighted the importance of the detail checklists for 26 sectors as the guideline for environmental impact assessment. He also said that study of such topics is very important for all Engineering and Management graduates and appreciated the efforts of the University in terms of promoting such education under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Sudhir K.
