JAMMU, July 10: After "boycotting" function at Kathua district in which Union Minister, Dr Jatindra Singh was guest of honour, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh made it a point to ensure that his arch rivals would not attend the function which was held two days back to install statue of Dr Shyama Parshad Mukherjee at Jammu.
Interestingly the function was held in the under construction office of the BJP at Trikuta Nagar, which is located just in front of the residence of Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jatinder Singh Rana but he was not invited in the function due to strong objection by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh.
Sources in the BJP said that Deputy Chief Minister made it clear to the party leadership that he would not attend the function if his arch rival Dr Jatindra Singh was invited. Furthermore, the Deputy Chief Minister also opposed extending invitation to Rajya Sabha member Shamsher Singh Manhas, who was also in town the same day.
Neither Union Minister Dr Jatinder Singh nor the only Rajya Sabha member of BJP from Jammu and Kashmir Shamsher Singh Manhas were present in the historic function as the first ever statue of Dr Mukherjee was installed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier Deputy Chief Minister had deliberately skipped the function which was organised to lay foundation stone of construction of two lane bridge over the river Ravi at village Keerian-Gandial under interstate connectivity of Centre Road FUND (CRF) scheme at June 26.
Minister for Surface Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari had come all the way to inaugurate this bridge but Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh is learnt to have had skipped the function giving some excuses.
Sources in BJP revealed that Deputy Chief Minister was reluctant to invite him as chief guest in that function. As the FUNDS for the two lane bridge project was central funded and it was decided that Dr Jatinder Singh Rana shall be the chief guest and deputy chief minister expressed his in ability to be present there citing his busy schedule in Kashmir valley.
Insiders in BJP also shared that "party MP in Rajya Sabha Shamsher Singh Manhas, who was very much in town was not extended a formal invitation. When he came to know about the function that too the unveiling of the statue of the founder of BJP Shayama Prasad Mukherji, he inquired from the other senior leaders of the party. But to his utter dismay none of the senior leadership here in Jammu and Kashmir could explain as if Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh has organized the function independently or party has organized the show to pay respect to the great martyr leader. |
