Jammu, Aug 23: In focus for all bad reasons, the University of Jammu has granted extension to contractual lecturer, despite issuance of notification to fill all teaching posts (contractual). The university on July 3 invited applications from deserving candidates to fill contractual posts of lecturers, but in an attempt to ensure continued service of an blue eyed candidate, the administration recently issued another order extending her contractual service. "I am desired to inform you that Dr Seema Bhasin earlier engaged as contractual Lecturer in Home Science, Directorate of Distance Education vide order number Adm/TW/14/5025 date 09-09-2014 may be allowed to continue as contractual lecturer in Home Science in the DDE till the post is advertised and selection is made afresh", a communiqué sent to Director DDE, by Assistant Registrar (Adm/TW), dated August 20, 2015 read. Earlier on July 2, 2015 under notification number Adm/TW/15/4183 the University of Jammu invited applications from deserving candidates to fill the vacant posts of contractual lecturers for various departments including Home Science. Sources said that in 2014 selection committee for appointment (contractual) lecturer in Home Science had found no one eligible for the post and had advised to re-advertise the post. "The Committee could not arrive at a consensus and therefore the committee recommends re-advertisement of the post", document in possession of ET read, and further revealed that Dr Seema Bhasin was at number three in list as per merit. "Anu Choudhary (PG 70.5% marks, JK SET), Vishav Deepika (PG 66.5% marks NET-SET) Seema Bhasin (PG 65 % marks, Ph.D) number one, two and three respectively", the documents read. Sources informed that Dr Bhasin challenged university's decision in the High Court and got relief. "The petitioner shall be allowed to continue as Lecturer in the department of Home Science till such time the selection is made afresh. She will also be paid her dues for the period she works", court's order SWP no 2332/2014 and CMA no 3140/2014 read. Though lambasting university authority for favouring the candidate, sources said that applications to fill the posts were invited in 2014. "It seems that, like earlier practice the university once again has paved way for the blue eyed, that's why the extension has been given to her", they added. |
