Fate of aam aadmi after independence
Shiv Kumar Padha Basohli8/24/2015 11:54:21 PM
In India 'luxury has become the prerogative of the privileged and humiliation the fate of aamadmi. While on the one hand Indian independence ushered in golden era for the elite, political andprivileged class of the country it brought neglect, deprivation, discrimination and humiliations for the aam aadmi. There is an infinite number of the martyrs who laid down their lives in the freedom struggle. Naming a few for the sake of the column will be an insult to those anonymous martyrs who sacrificed their lives on the altar of motherland at their respective places. During the struggle many freedom fighters were either executed mercilessly or were sent to the cellular jail of Rangoon where they were left to languish with fetters in the feet till they breathed their last. Some freedom fighters were exiled from the country and were forced to take asylum in other countries which, afterward, they used as the launching pads to steer, propagate and support the freedom struggle in India. It is reality that but for their selfless efforts, spirit of sacrifice, patriotism and passion for their homeland the independence would have remained a distant dream. The majority of MPs who adorned the first and the subsequentparliaments of the country belonged to the elite, royal and rich class of the country who had got not even a cut on their nail during the freedom struggle.
The persons and the families, closely associated with the ruling clan took long strides and soon found themselves in the corridors of power and consequently spread their tentacles in the government and bureaucracy. The rules and laws of the country, framed for the welfare of the people, always tilted in favor of the privileged and elite class which bifurcated the Indian society into political i.e. ruling, bureaucratic and the humiliated class of aamadmi.
The covetousness of the political class gave birth to the class of criminals comprising of encroachers and mafias which flourished under the patronage of the politicians. Out of theclasses as mentioned earlier the politicians, bureaucrats and the criminals have remained the major beneficiaries in the country since independence whereas the aamadmi of the countryhad to remain contented with thehumiliation, neglect and deprivation in the hands of their elected governments.
The nation has been watching the upheavals in the political corridors since the last decade which have exposed many political wolves in lambs clothing.
The integrity, honesty, nationalism and patriotism of majority of the politicians have come under scanner which has brought an indelible blot on the biggest democracy of the world. The politicians who robbed the country of lacs of crores of rupees through corrupt practices, scams, commissions, embezzlements and siphoning out nations money enjoy good reputation in higher echelons of power. They get all the amenities, security and command the VIP treatment both in bureaucracy and government circles even after they are charged for their crimes and are sent to jail, whereas an ordinary pick pocket or a thieve caught for theft is thrashed, canned and dragged on the road in public. Merely sending the corrupt ministers/ politicians and the bureaucrats to jail for few days without recovering the bribe money is no punishment as compared to the gravity and severity of their crime. They easily manage their bails on fabricated grounds In order to threaten, terrify and victimize the witnesses after their release and do not hesitatecampaigning during the elections for their parties and kins whereas thousands of innocent persons languish in the jails of the country for dozens of years without any charges framed against them. Not to talk of their acquittal on bail these so called criminals are not even allowed peepingthrough the ventilators.Every Indian with a grain of sense has been experiencing discrimination between the privileged and thenon-privileged common man especially in the matters of enforcement of the law and the jail manual, which guarantees equality of every individual.
In democracy it is the bureaucracy not the council of ministers which governs the country like 'THE BROOK' governments may come and governments may go but the bureaucracy will go on forever. It is perennial source of power which advises guides and educates the novice councils of ministers after every election. Both the council of ministers and the bureaucracy work in team spirit and reciprocate each other in the same coins. It will not be an exaggeration if we say that bureaucracy is the real source of power but for its consent the scams, corruption and encroachments at the higher level is impossible. The bureaucrats try to remain always in the good books of the governments and enjoy the amenities during and after their superannuation as a reward for their loyalty.
Comparing the intensity and the grievous nature of the crimes, committed by the antinational elements, terrorists and the perpetrators of the bombay serial bomb blasts and 26/11 incidents, with the facilities and amenities they are provided in the jails we findthese elementsfar better than those prisoners who are deprived of even the basic necessities needed for the sustenance of life in the jail. The terrorists under trial are served the most nutritious meals during their detentions for which our governments have to incur crores of rupees for the maintenance of their health and hygiene of the enemies of the nation.
There are some politicians and the bureaucrats who harbor, finance and provide moral support to them. The separatist and divisive forces responsible for fanning the fire of hatred and the killing of the innocent people are looked after and treated like VIPs. They and their families are provided with the type of security which even the cabinet ministers are not entitled for. They enjoy the privilege of sitting on the round table conferences with national and international leaders for negotiations.
The terrorists injured during the encounter are air lifted and are given the treatment in the best hospitals of the country whereas those injured during the cross firing are discharged after giving them first aid in the local hospitals and dispensaries who later on suffer from the complicacies arising out of their non-treated previous.
'Humiliation thy name is aamadmi' it has become a part of his life and follows him like a shadow wherever he goes. It is a 'yakshprashan, why does a common man of the country is made to face humiliation and discrimination when his contributions to the national exchequer are far more than that of those privileged classes enjoying maximum amenities. In order to manage the family aamadmi is compelled to stand for hours in never ending serpentine queues before the PDS shops, LPG gas agencies, K. oil depots, Booking offices and public water points.
Old men, women and the expecting mothers are compelled to stand in the queue for hours to collect the provisions during the scorching heat and the chilling cold. Sometimes they are humiliated and have to bear the berate and canning of the police for controlling the unruly mob. The common man is snubbed and shown the exit of the offices before they are listened patiently by the authorities.
The cost of justice, medical treatment and education is beyond the reach of aamadmi. Often the school going children, employees, factory workers, laborers, passengers and the ambulances carrying the serious patients get struck for hours on the highways in order to give passage to the motorcade of the VIPs without caring for the inconvenience caused to those trapped on the highways due to them. Every year hundreds of the devotees lose their lives in the stampedes taking place due to theuntimely arrival of the VIPs with an army of security there.
No country irrespective of the type of government it has can boast for its development unless its benefits reach to its last man .
The common man is the yard stick by which the development and prosperity of any nation can be gauged in the true sense. Let us pledge and resolve on this 69 th independence day of free India to strive foruplifting the condition of aamadmi by giving him his due share of thedevelopment taking place in the country.
