| Students of BGSBU again resort to protest as Registrar attends office | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Aug 24:On August 22, after three days of long marathon meetings between district administration, the Vice Chancellor (VC) Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) and the students, the indefinite strike demanding removal of the Registrar was called off. The last and final meeting was held in the office chamber of SSP Rajouri Dr Haseeb Mughal and at about 8 pm students called off their strike after BGSBU administration agreed to remove Registrar (student's main demand) and replacing Special Investigation Team (SIT) head.Students were on indefinite strike for the last 15 days demanding removal of Registrar for his involvement in infamous scholarship scam/financial irregularities, action against culprits, reconstitution of internal inquiry committee, replacing of SIT head (police investigation), audit of three mains account heads of BGSBU (student apprehend misappropriation of funds), better facilities in the hostels etc. After mounting pressure from the civil society and Chief Minister's secretariat District Development Commissioner (DDC) Deepati Uppal and SSP Mughal held meetings with the VC, student representatives and succeeded in breaking the deadlock and students agreed to join their classes from Monday.
But to the utter surprise of the students today they noticed that Mohd Rashid Choudhry, removed Registrar, came to BGSBU in his official vehicle (as alleged by students) and reportedly occupied the office of Deputy Registrar (also special secretary to VC). As students came to know about these developments they gathered outside the office of the VC Prof IA Hamal and started raising slogans. "We have been cheated by the BGSBU administration as our demand was to replace Registrar till the pending inquiry. But he is very much active in the VC office and allegedly refused to accept the university order," said students. Vide BGSBU order No BGSBU/Reg/15/5343-5379 dt 22/8/15 Mohd Rashid Chowdhary, holding the substantive post of Registrar is transferred and along with substantive post and posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the office of VC till further orders. "Now the game is in the court of VC as the district administration has defused the situation after an agreement was reached between the BGSBU administration and students and accordingly students had called off their strike," said SSP Mughal. "BGSBU administration should have sent the Registrar on leave for few days to cool down the situation but it seems university administration deliberately want to keep the pot boiling and it was also alleged by the students that after 2-3 days Mohd Rashid Chowdhry is going to attend a meeting at Srinagar as a Registrar of BGSBU," said a senior police officer. At the time of filing this report the students were holding protest and raising slogans against VC and university administration alleging that they have been deceived. Now, the civil administration officials (not coming openly) as well as members of civil society have been blaming the BGSBU administration for flaring up the situation in the campus by not taking tough stand against the Registrar for the reasons best known to them.
