HM Rajnath Singh inspires, disappoints nation simultaneously
Talks only over Pok, Gilgit-Baltistan

ET Report
JAMMU, Sept 15: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh did the right thing when he at Bhopal the other day set the record straight and told Pakistan that Jammu & Kashmir was an integral part of India and it shall ever remain so. He said the only issue that New Delhi was prepared to discuss with Pakistan was the political future of Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir, which had been under the illegal occupation of Pakistan for almost seven decades now.
"The country will not hesitate in retaliating if someone fires first and asserted the Government is ready to talk to Pakistan over PoK and not Kashmir. India always wants good friendly relations with its neighbours and continues with its policy of not disturbing anyone. But if someone fires at us first, we will not count the retaliatory bullets. Chhedenge nahi, par chhodenge bhi nahi (will not disturb anyone, but if disturbed, then won't spare anyone)," Rajnath Singh said while strongly warning to those who disrupt border peace. "During my meeting with the Pak Rangers and its delegation, I have cleared to them that Kashmir was, is and will remain India's integral part and if you wish to talk, then talk about Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) only," he emphasized.
What he said about this part and other part of Jammu & Kashmir needs to be appreciated by one and all because what he said was the statement of fact. Jammu & Kashmir had acceded to India as per the law and, hence, the accession is final, irrevocable and irreversible. The Constitution of India and the Jammu & Kashmir Constitution are also very clear on the issue. Similarly, PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan were parts of the Jammu & Kashmir territories before Pakistan occupied them illegally by waging war on the Indian soil. Even the United Nations endorse the Indian point of view on PoJK and Gilgit-Baltistan and require Pakistan to vacate the aggression and India to station its troops in the areas to be vacated by Pakistan, notwithstanding the fact that it also talk about referendum in the entire State of Jammu & Kashmir under a particular condition: When perfect peace retuned to the State, the views of the people of Jammu & Kashmir shall be ascertained to find if they wanted to become Part of India or part of Pakistan. There is no third or fourth option.
However, Rajnath Singh disappointed the nation when he said India will not hesitate to retaliate if disturbed. The country never expected such a statement from the Union Home Minister considering what Pakistan did to India during the Modi regime. The country wanted him to speak the language Pakistan understands. Indeed, his statement disappointed the country.
It needs to be underlined that during the past few months, Pakistan violated ceasefire or breached International Border and Line of Control more than 900 times and caused migration from the border belt, attacked our police stations, Army, BSF and CRPF camps, took the lives of over 35 peaceful, unarmed and innocent civilians, including women and children, and massacred about 100 soldiers and jawans. Besides, during the same period, Pakistan made several provocative statements, including the statement that Pakistan would not hesitate to use atomic weapons against India. By this time, India should have taught Pakistan a lesson, but it was not to be. Instead, the Modi Government allowed Pakistan to bleed India in the manner it wanted.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and others holding important positions in the South and North Blocks must behave like the leaders of self-respecting nations behave. They should imitate countries like United States, Israel and China and create conditions which show the forces inimical to India the place they deserved. Will they?
