| JU apathy halts completion of Kathua campus building | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 3 : Sluggishness of Jammu University can be gauged from the fact that near complete building for off-site campus of the varsity in Kahua district has been left abandoned for the past over a one year.
Sources informed Early Times that in the beginning the former Rectors posted there did not take any interest to do spade work for gearing up construction work of Kathua campus.
They said that besides Rs 4 crore provided under PM package in the year 2007 for developing infrastructure of Kathua Campus, University Grants Commission also provided over Rs 8 Crore for development of the campus. Despite allocation of over Rs 12 Crore for construction of complex, the concerned construction agency carried on the work at snail's pace.
The University administration, according to the sources, failed to get the building completed till now as authorities could not manage the remaining funds to complete the remaining works of fitting doors and windows etc, although crores have already been spent.
Sources said that Kathua campus is functioning in a private building on huge rent basis and the campus building where crores of rupees have been spent is lying abandoned which is located near Janglote area of Kathua district.
Expressing apprehension over misuse of abandoned building by some unscrupulous elements for ulterior purposes, the locals said that given the recent dangerous activities of anti-national people in Pathankot, adjacent to Kathua district the Kathua campus building should have some security as it can be possibly used as a hideout by such elements.
The sources said that sagacity of mind with little administrative acumen and will of varsity authority to complete the building would have made it functional by now but due to tendency to prefer Kathua campus in heavily rented private building for unknown reasons, the almost complete building is losing grace day by day and may need maintenance after some times. |
