6/30/2016 11:14:09 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 30: The NSUI today held a protest and burnt an effigy of the Secretary Sports Council Jawaid Ahmad Shah for playing with the careers of students by giving sports category certificate to un- recognized sports disciplines at the cost of genuine sportspersons who blood and sweat to participate in national and international level events.
The NSUI leader Ranjoot Singh, who is also a national judo player said that the Secretary is playing with the careers of genuine players by giving undue benefits to Blue eyed boys and girls, most of whom are wards and relatives of the officers and officials of the sports council, thereby ignoring genuine sports persons under sports quota in professional colleges and government service. He said that the Secretary is totally concerned about the plight of the regular sportsmen who train in scanty facilities and poor infrastructure. "In judo, where so many players train every day, the ceiling has dangerously come off and the matting is totally worn out, yet despite repeated requests, secretary has not even taken cognizance of our plight" he said. "He is only busy in earning commissions through sub standard civil works and in extending undue benefits to blue eyed by granting legitimacy to unrecognized game s and sports" he added.
It is noteworthy that a senior member of sports council Rifat Abdullah walked out of the scrutiny committee meeting yesterday accusing the Sports Council of operating a mafia to accommodate non deserving sports persons under sports category
NSUI demanded immediate removal of Secretary Sports Council Jawaid Ahmad Shah against whom Vigilance department has already passed strictures. They demanded of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is President of Sports council to intervene and stop corrupt practices in the Council.
