BSNL sold over 20,000 postpaid, 4000 broadband connections | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 22 : Although the Kashmir unrest have affected the state economy and hampered major developmental works, but it has emerged as "blessing in disguise'" for the Bharat Sanchar Nagar Limited (BSNL) as the company has sold over 20,000 postpaid and more than 4000 broadband connections across the state during the period of ongoing turmoil. According to sources, the sale of BSNL connections either landline, postpaid or broadband has shown upbeat in the wake of temporary suspension of internet facilities due to alleged sacrilegious acts and Kashmir tension."In the past one month of unrest, over 20,000 post paid connection have been sold while many people restored their landline phones," H K Verma, Chief General Manager, BSNL J&K Circle here told mediapersons. He, however, claimed that around new 4000 landlines with broadband and WiFi modems are also installed during this period. "In the last more than ten years, for the first time, BSNL registered an overwhelm profit of Rs 12.87 crores in Financial Year 2015-16 against the loss of Rs 37.9 crores," said Verma.He further said, "the company had faced many problems in the recent past and our salary expenditure are 50 percent more than the amount we are earning from the state but due to aggressive campaign statewide, new schemes have been introduced and hopefully, we will make a comeback.'"The CGM said revenue performance of BSNL J&K circle in landline and mobile segment in First Quarter (Q1) of Financial Year 2016-17 ending this July has been increased 40 to 50 per cent in comparison with the revenue position of first quarter performance of previous years. On poor signal and connectivity problems in many parts of the district, he said, "We are receiving such problems in bulk but in the coming days, I assure that the snag will be repaired and whatever be the faults, will be looked into to provide better service to our customers."''Service is the priority for BSNL and there will be no compromise towards it,'' he asserted. On upcoming plans by the BSNL to improve its network and speed, he said that the telecom company has enhanced bandwidth by 5G to Delhi and 20G to Jammu-Srinagar.''To provide Landline Service in new and upcoming localities and technically non-feasible areas, J&K circle has floated Expression of Interest (EoI) on revenue share basis for providing Landline and Broadband Services by laying of U/G cables," said the CGM.
