Locals protest against land acquisition for industrial centre, block highway | | | Early Times Report
Vijaypur , Sept 17: Farmers and residents of around seven villages, whose land is reportedly being acquired for Industrial Growth Centre, today staged massive protest against the district administration for acquiring their agricultural land and also blocked vehicular movement on busy Jammu-Pathankot National Highway for nearly two hours in Samba to register their protest. Raising slogans against state government and district administration, the protesters from Karandi, Ramnagar, Kali Bari Camp, Katli, Panjtilla, Khanwal and Karadian villages took to roads while opposing the acquisition for Phase-III and Phase-1V of Industrial Growth Centre. Expressing concerns over the issue and solidarity with farmers of the area, the workers and leaders of different political and non political parties also joined the protest to support farmers. Addressing the protestors Former MLA and Senior leader JKNPP Yashpal Kundal said that the lives of farmers are at stake as the government is trying to acquire the land in seven villages, where agriculture is the major activity. "We will not allow the government to acquire the land of farmers, he said. Meanwhile the protestors cautioned the state government that they will launch a massive agitation if government fails to concede to their demand and exempt acquisition of the agricultural land. |
