Jammu, Sept 17: An influential official in Works Department of University of Jammu under patronage of administration has monopolized the functioning of entire department.
Despite being lower rung official, he is manning entire department. Even executive engineers have to kneel down before him. Sources said that an official under patronage of university administration has 'ruined' the works department, during his service.
"Depriving most of contractors, all major works by hook or crook are being allotted to selected contractors, who have hands in glove with the officials", they said. "He (official) was appointed as junior assistant in works department, after completing nine years, he was promoted as Senior Assistant, but with help of University authorities, he again adjusted in works department", sources said, adding that during his tenure as Senior Assistant he was transferred from Works Department on several complaints of harassment by contractors working with JU.
"But, under administrative patronage, the blue eyed official was again installed in same department as Senior Assistant", sources said, adding since he has close proximity with Registrar and Assistant Registrar Establishment, no one dare to him. Sources alleged that since the official has better understanding with some of the contractors, he abuses his official position to give tenders to his close aide. "He opens the sealed tenders and change envelops before opening date and helps some of his close contractor with help of Executive Engineer", they alleged.
Sources further claimed that some contractors and officials of works department are under scanner of vigilance. "Despite being on radar of vigilance, the contractors with connivance of University Administration are working in the campus premises", they claimed.
"We all are victim of power official in the works department, he always helps the big contractors and exploited the small one", alleged, adding that he makes wrong estimates to drain university exchequer. "Several, unnecessary items are being installed and replaced without any need, even some items in good condition are being replaced", they added. |
