Huge consignment of Poppy straw seized on Mughal Road, one held | | | Early Times Report
Poonch Sept 17: Alert troops of the Army and Police deployed on Mughal Road today foiled a narcotoics smuggling bid with the arrest of one person alongwith 28 Kg of popy straw (Bhukki) concealed in two gunny bags beneath the apple boxes from a passenger vehicle from Dubjan to Rajouri. Official sources said that a joint naka party of army and police today intercepted a Tata Sumo vehicle bearing registration JK-11- 9887. "During checking of said vehicle the team recovered 28 kgs of poppy straw popularly known as Bhukki, sources said, adding, "the 28 kgs of contraband was found in two gunny bags concealed beneath the apple boxes from afore said vehicle on its way Dubjan to Rajouri carrying nine passengers on historic Mughal Road . Police sources said, "the driver of the vehicle namely Toshif Ahmed s/o Mohd Iqbal r/o Chandimarh Surankote Poonch was detained while the consoignment of contraband was seized. Later seized narcotics consignment was handed over to Police Station Behramgala. Police sources said that this is a major setback to the drug peddlers who were trying to use the Mughal Road to deliver the Consignment. Earlier two narcotics smuggler were nabbed while smuggling poppy straw on July this year when police recovered 7 kg of poppy straw (bukki) from a Tata Sumo vehicle at Bafliaz on Mughal Road and arrested two persons in this connection on July 19. The contraband was seized near bridge on Mughal Road from Tata Sumo bearing registration No JK02T- 7260 on its way to Surankote from Shopian. |
