Centre plans to raise 3 NCC Battalions in J&K: Maj Gen Jakhar

Jammu, Sept 17: Additional Director General of NCC, Major General S S Jakhar today said that the Centre has planned and approved raising of three more battalions of National Cadet Corps.
"The Government of India may raise three more NCC battalions in Jammu and Kashmir with an aim to divert attention of youngsters from social evils especially the stone pelters in the Kashmir Valley," Maj Gen Jakhar here told reporters after inspecting J&K contingents in Nagrota area on city outskirts.
The Army officer said the new battalions will enroll over 15,000 students in various colleges initially in Udhampur, Srinagar and Kupwara, who will work under each Group Headquarter in Jammu and Kashmir regions.
Major General Jakhar said the Centre has approved the raising of battalions while the state government has to take the process into consideration.
"Students from bordering hamlets and far-flung area will be on priority during an enrollment process," he asserted.
Earlier, Maj Gen Jakhar, ADG NCC J&K reviewed the preparations of state contingent of NCC cadets for participation in national level "Thal Sainik Camp" at Nagrota based NCC Academy.
The ADG saw rehearsals of various competition events which will be held at the camp.
Training of the camp comprises of basic Army activities like map reading, tent pitching, weapon training and firing, field signals, obstacle race and health and hygiene.
The J&K contingent comprises of 80 cadets including both boys and girls of senior and junior divisions.
The contingent will take part in the national level inter directorate competitions held at Delhi from September 19 to September 30.
The Cadets from all state NCC contingents will participate in competitions of the above mentioned training events.
The cadets have been selected after a very tough selection process and have been through a very gruelling training routine.
Addressing the cadets, Maj Gen Jakhar, commended them for their enthusiasm and hard work in preparing for the national level competition. He wished the contingent good luck and expressed confidence that they will surely bring laurels to the state. He also appreciated the hard work put in by Brigadier Rajan Jamwal and his team in selecting and preparing the cadets.
