Jammu, Sept 17: Department of Botany of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu on Saturday celebrated ozone day here today. According to press release, on this occasion, a guest lecture on the topic "Climate change and Various Ecosystem of Jammu Province" was organized. Dr. Harish Chander Dutt, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, University of Jammu, was resource person. He spoke at length on the causes and consequences of climate change including five mass extinctions and how species are disappearing at an alarming rate. He also gave an account of the state of various ecosystems in Jammu region ranging from sub-tropical, temperate to alpines and emphasized upon the need for their conservation and preservation while acting more locally. Prof. Suchitra Saproo, Head of Chemistry Department in College, who was chief guest of the event, appreciated the department of Botany to organize a guest lecture on such an important topic, and underlined the need of continued efforts to spread awareness among masses especially youth and students about changing the climate change. Prof. Mala Basin presented vote of thanks. A large number of students and staff members attended the programme. |
