Minor's rape: Police thwarts Panchayat's bid to hush up case, five booked

Kishtwar, Sept 17: Acting swiftly and showing professionalism the Kishtwar police today thwarted an attempt to hush up a rape case of a minor girl in remote Bhunzwah area of Kishtwar District by the local Panchayat and booked five persons including man accused allegedly involved in rape of a minor in the area.
"The accused have been identified as main accused Javed Iqbal, Abdul Latief son of Ghulam Mohammad Veeri, Mubasshir Iqbal, Mohammad Abbas both sons of Abdul Latief Veeri and Noor Hussain son of Ghulam Hussain Veeri, police sources said.
According to police sources, Kishtwar police party led by incharge Police Post Jawalapur Madan Lal under the supervision of Dy SP HQ Kishtwar Touseef Rishu and SHO Police Station Kishtwar Sameer Jeelani arrested the rape accused and booked him under a rape case. As per details available with "Early Times", the uncle of 14 year old victim (name withheld) lodged complaint with local police that his niece a minor girl was repeatedly raped by the accused whom he (complainant) had identified as Javed Iqbal (21) son of Abdul Latief Veeri of Nali Dhani Bhunzwah. Quoting complainant, police sources also added that as a result repeated sexual exploitation minor became pregnant.
Police sources also added that victim in her statement before the police mentioned that while she was grazing castles in nearby forest a couple of months ago the accused raped her and threatened her of dire consequences in case she reveals anything to her parents.
"The accused Javed Iqbal taking the benefit of innocence of the minor repeatedly the crime and the girl even became pregnant, the victim stated while adding, that few days back the accused again tried to rape her; but the victim informed him that she was a pregnant."
"After knowing girl's pregnancy, the accused again threatened her, the victim told police and added that he asked her to terminate her pregnancy. As per victim's statement the accused also tried to give her some medicines with an aim to terminate her pregnancy. Meantime she mustered some courage and brought the matter into the notice of her family members who took up the matter with the local village heads who tried to negotiate the issue and announced minor girl to marry the accused as a judgment. Sources said that girl told that the accused also tried to put pressure on the victim and even conspired to kill her child.
When the matter came into the notice of the police through victim's complaint, police swung into action registered a case under FIR No 169/2016 u/s 376/506/109 against the accuse Javed Iqbal, Abdul Latief son of Ghulam Mohammad Veeri, Mubasshir Iqbal, Mohammad Abbas both sons of Abdul Latief Veeri and Noor Hussain son of Ghulam Hussain Veeri and started its further investigations.
