Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, May 17: Different government departments operating in Jammu & Kashmir have a habit of issuing orders and then trampling over the same according to their own wish and whim with the worst part being that nobody is accountable in such a scenario.
Not long ago the School Education department issued an order that teachers would be deputed in every school and their services would be utilized for teaching purposes only. The order has by and large remained an order only with the implementation part missing on the ground. Teachers are doing jobs of clerks in many districts of the state with the teaching process being badly hit in the schools at these places. At the same time orders of detachment have also not been implemented in letter and spirit with the influential teachers enjoying their stay at the capital cities, district headquarters and towns.
Above all the media cell of Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has virtually been hijacked by a teacher who very recently was a Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT). Instead of teaching at a government school this government teacher is enjoying the cozy comforts at DSEK. He has in fact forgotten his real role that of a teacher.
"It seems there is a dearth of mass communication professionals in the state especially Kashmir valley. It may be due to this reason that a job of a communicator or Public Relations Officer is carried out by a teacher. Strange things have happened in the past in the state and this is an addition to the whole process," said sources while sharing details with Early Times. The government teacher plays the role of an anchor at both the government as well as non-government functions. He is an empanelled news reader at Radio Kashmir Srinagar and also reads news bulletins at Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar on regular basis. He does not stop in showering praises on ministers, officials and bureaucrats. "This government teacher plays the role of a host of a popular religious programme aired from Radio Kashmir Srinagar at 8:30 AM on every Friday. He is also a part of the programme Jammu & Kashmir Bank Diary broadcast by Radio Kashmir Srinagar on every Sunday at 8:30 AM. He is calling the shots at DSEK and he at times seems to be de-facto Director School Education, Kashmir," said sources.
Sources said that despite the fact that some communication professionals are posted in the media cell at DSEK still then the government teacher is the ultimate boss of this component of school education department in Kashmir. The communication professionals are playing second fiddle to him and all this is going on under the nose of Director School Education Kashmir.
"The government teacher is enjoying the patronage of Director School Education Kashmir and there is nobody who would make him accountable. Rules are for fools and same gets proved at DSEK with this government teacher trampling over the rules and regulations like anything. One fails to understand as who would set the matters right at DSEK," said sources.
