Illegal connections, motors leave Rajouri town water less
5/18/2018 11:58:40 PM
Early Times Report

Rajouri, May 18: Construction of Ring road-cum-Bridge in Nabhan Mohalla area in old Rajouri town has badly affected water supply to Nabhan Mohalla and in the Tehsil office area.
According to Executive Engineer (XEn), PHE, Nissar Khan, the main reason behind shortage of water was damage to the pipes by JCB machines and shifting of river water away from dug well.
"As the construction of the bridge/ring road in the area has divertef the flow of river water away from its original position, it has slashed down considerably the discharge of dug well resulting in the shortage of water," said Khan.
He added earlier JCB machine was pressed into service to restore the water flow to its original position and the water supply from the dug well improved.
But due to heavy rains recently it was once again diverted and on Thursday JCB was again used to change water flow towards the dug well," said Nissar Khan.
He added it's a temporary phase and soon the water supply will be restored to its original position.
Meanwhile people have alleged that additional pipes were laid to feed more areas from this dug well which has created shortage of drinking water to old subscribers as people started using motors to lift the water.
"More than fifty percent illegal/unauthorised connections in the old / new city are another major reason for the water crises in the main Rajouri town Influential people/politicians have also managed additional feeding pipes from this dug well which has also affected badly the functioning of the pump/ water supply.
"More than ten thousand motors have been installed by the inhabitants of the town on direct water supply pipes. The matter is in the notice of senior officers and district administration. It needs a collective and affective action by the district administration with the help of police and concerned departments "said XEn.
Another senior PHE official said, "Our departmental engineering has failed here at Rajouri due to unnecessary interference by the politicians and due to their unwanted/non-practical suggestions/instructions to how to install / operate the water lifting pumps.
