Early Times Report

RAJOURI, July 9: Despite several promises made by the union as well as state governments, the Nowshera firing and shelling victims are still waiting for compensation announced by the Union Home Ministry.
Several border migrants, who had spent more than 7-8 months in the migrant camps at Nowshera and other places while about 30 migrants are still languishing in a camp at Nowshera, alleged that they have not received free ration for the last 4 months as was announced by the government.
During Union Home Minister's visit to migrant's camps and interaction with the migrants at Nowshera, Border Migrant Association through its president, former Sarpanch (Jhangar) had presented a memorandum of their demands.
Their demands include adequate compensation/ relief for the border victims as per Kashmiri migrants, special recruitment drive for the unemployed youth of border villages (only for those who were affected and not for those who falls under Line of Actual Control (LAC) category, free ration compensation for loss to crops/houses and animals losses, construction of individual bunkers, special development package, 5-marla plots to the affected families at safer places etc. Rajnath Nath Singh during his June tour to J&K Kashmir had announced increase in compensation for civilian killings on the borders due to Pakistan shelling and firing from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and for livestock from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.
Home Ministry has also simplified the scheme of ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the civilian victims of cross-border firing in J&K and now the payment will directly be sent to the bank accounts of next of kin in case of death or the victims of more than 50 per cent disability, it added.
An official statement issued by the Home Ministry also cleared that increased compensation for killing of civilians from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and waiving off the conditions linked to payment of relief will be available from August 24, 2016.
Purshotam Lal, president Border Migrant Association claimed that the migrants are still waiting for relief. No ration has been provided to the victims for the last 4 months.
The deputations of these migrants led by Purshotam Lal today met with Tehsildar Nowshera who assured to take up their demands with the higher authorities.
