Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 9: The influential persons of the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu and some outsiders have been stealing electricity from 'Heart Line' (Special Power Line) of the hospital with the help of the concerned authority for last many years.
Moreover, the administration is well aware of the power pilferage but no action has been taken to identify and prevent them.
Officials, seeking anonymity, told Early Times that the special power line (24*7) is the 'Heart Line' for the hospital and its machinery and other types of equipment depend on the special line but since the misuse of the line by the above said persons, the purpose of the same has been defeated and hospital is facing problems.
"Having nexus with some of the concerned officials, a number of outsiders, even some staff of the hospital are also stealing power from this line without any fear and running their business establishments illegally for last many years, but no action has been taken against them which is encouraging others to misuse the special line.
The practice is putting the financial burden on the GMC Jammu, "officials said, adding causing the patient care is being affected as power unscheduled cuts.
For the purpose of patient care and interrupt supply only to the hospital, not for the academic section, a special electricity line had been given to them but the failure to prevent its misuse.
Now, every senior faculty member, having Air Conditioner in his/ her room, either installed by own or gifted by Medical Representatives, misusing the line for the personal interest which is totally against its idea, sources claimed. Sources further added that the power has been used by the academic purpose and even small office in the section these days. Here it needs to mentioned that in past number of incidents of power cuts were reported even during surgeries but no temporary and permanent salutation was worked out by the concerned authority to stop the power theft.
Principal, GMC Jammu Dr Sunanda Raina said that the issue is under her knowledge and an order has been issued to concerned XEn Mechanical and XEn Civil to conduct an audit of the power connections in all hospitals.
"The power pilferage will be stopped as soon as possible by introducing meter system, "she hoped. She also that a special line has been given to the Girls' and Boys' hostels so the studies would not be affected due to power cuts.
