Early Times Report

Jammu, July 9: Fictitious payments are being released for already finished works in Kalakote Block and government employees are being shown as labourer for works done under MGNREGA.
Sources said that showing thumb to the monitoring agencies, the officials of Block Development Office (BDO) Kalakote have swallowed several lakh of Rupees by making payments for already finished works in the block.
"In Dali Panchayat alone, payment for more than six existing works has been released by the Block", sources familiar with embezzlement claimed enumerating several works and added that even the payment is being made in favour of government employees.
They said that the credential of works shown by the Block in its record could be gauged from the fact that payment are made in favour of government employees. "A PHE employee who is from village Dali of Kalakote Block, has been shown as labourer in list of MGNREGA works", they said and added that it was not an isolated case there hundreds of cases where payments are being made in favour of government employees showing them as labourers.
"An audit from an independent agency needs to be done to expose the embezzlement has been committed by the officials of Block", they said and added that the matter has also been brought into notice of State Vigilance Organisation, and hoped that appropriate action being taken.
BDO, Kalakote, Jagan Nath could not be contacted for his version.
