Jammu, July 9: The management and inmates of Home for the Aged and Infirm (Popularly known as Vridh Ashram) at Ambphalla, Jammu celebrated 118lh Birth Anniversary of its founder Ram Nath Prabhakar by performing hawan-poojan in the morning. The President I D Soni State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides paid tributes to Prabhakar, who retired as Head Master, devoted his life in service of the poor and aged destitute and infirm members of the society. He described him as a great visionary who could foresee necessity of such a Home for aged and infirm persons in the ever changing society. He was a well known social worker who made a significant contribution for care and upliftment of such needy, hapless &destitute persons. This Institution was established on June, 8lh 1964 with mere one room on a piece of land obtained on lease from Ved Mandir Committee. The Home registered as a Society on February 20,1965, now has emerged as a Premier Centre in the State for service to the old and inf firm persons of the society.
The Home now having two full fledged buildings facing each other across the road link from Ambphalla Chowk to Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital via Goashala, has capacity to comfortably accommodate around ninety aged persons. This Home has rendered useful service for the last fifty four years to scores of poor, hapless, destitute persons irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, sex or region while adhering to the Motto " Nar Seva is Naryan Seva". Besides providing free all necessities and amenities of life, as well as medical care, the management tries to ensure individual attention, affection, sympathy and feeling of homeliness which has been denied to them by their kiths and kins but they deserve at this stage of life
A Physiotherapic Care Centre has since been set up for the inmates and this facility has been extended to other senior citizens as well at subsidized charges. It is not feasible rather possible without the generous cooperation of general public, both financial as well physical, to fulfill the motto of "Service of suffering Humanity is worship of God". The general public was appealed to pay frequent visits to this Home at their convenience and interact with the inmates who need loving touch and pleasant company of their well wishers in the evening of their life.
