Agencies New Delhi, July 10: Former Union Minister Karan Singh on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to name the Jammu airport after Maharaja Hari Singh, a long-standing demand of the people to do so. Reacting to reports on the move to rename Tripura airport after Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, Karan Singh, who recently retired from the Rajya Sabha, wrote to the Prime Minister: "There has been a long-standing demand from the people of Jammu that Jammu airport be named after Maharaja Hari Singh in whose time it was constructed and used by the state plane.' Karan Singh, son of the late Maharaja, said the renaming of Jammu airport would be a fitting tribute to a man who not only introduced a number of social welfare and developmental measures in the state but also signed the Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947. |
