Jammu, July 10: In an effort to protect the environment and to eradicate the use of polythene carry bags, polythene packaging materials and allied products having thickness less than 50 microns, which is banned by the J&K State Government vide SRO-45 of 2017 dated 03.02.2017, J&K SPCB has launched a massive drive against the illegal use of such offensive material. As per the standing instructions of Member Secretary, J&K SPCB, BM Sharma, IFS special task force has been constituted under the supervision of Regional Director Jammu, Er. JN Sharma comprising three Divisional Officers viz Divisional Officer PCB Jammu North, Er. TS Chib, Divisional Officer PCB Jammu South Er. Badder Hussain and Divisional Officer PCB Samba North Er. Deepak Abrol, Dr. Yash Pal Scientist 'B' besides Engineers Arshad Malik, Surinder Tripathi, Anupam Kaul, Chander Kotwal and Field Inspectors Naveed Chowdhary, Dimple Sharma, Pankaj Chadha, Narayan Thakur, the team was assisted by Vikram Gupta, Legal Assistant. At the outset, the special task force headed by Er. JN Sharma, Regional Director raided the premises of Best Price (Walmart) at Tophsherkhania and found illegal use of polythene packaging material having thickness less than 50 microns at their backyard. On scientific investigation done at site, it is found that they were using packaging material even less than 20 to 23 microns, which is an offensive and violation of government orders and standing directions besides, use of such material is an environmental hazard and risk to environment and health of common man when it is thrown in the environment. The packaging material seized found to be about 1.5 ton. The illegal material is seized and seizure memo is served to the representative of Best Price, Sumit, store manager. On spot directions have been issued to the Store Manager, Sumit to refrain from further use of such material in further. The Regional Director Jammu appealed to the traders, manufacturers, stocking and persons using such banned material to cooperate with the authorities in eradication of use of such material has been banned by the government vide SRO-45 issued by the J&K Government so that eco-fragile environment of the state can be protected. |
