SRINAGAR, July 19: Six professors aspiring to become Vice-Chancellors of Universities of Jammu and Kashmir today had an interaction with the Search cum Selection Committee set up in this regard. Three professors each appeared for the Vice-Chancellors of the two universities of the state.
Sources told Early Times that Professor Kamlesh, Professor Manoj Dhar and Professor R D Sharma appeared in the interaction for the post of Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu. Professor Sharma is the incumbent Vice-Chancellor of University of Jammu and he has been in news during his tenure at the university as the Vice-Chancellor.
Sources said that for the post of Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir three professors appeared in the interaction before the Search cum Selection Committee. These include Professor Mushtaq Ahmad Kawa, former Director Centre for Central Asian Studies (CCAS), University of Kashmir, Professor Talat Ahmad and Professor Muzahir Kidwai.
Professor Talat has already served as Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir and he was replaced by Professor Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, the incumbent Vice-Chancellor. If selected this would be his second term as Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir.
Professor Kidwai has served as Vice-Chancellor of Jiwaji University and at present he is a professor at Delhi University.
Sources said that Governor Narendra Nath Vohra who is the chancellor of University of Jammu and University of Kashmir has impressed upon the Search cum Selection Committee to expedite the process of selection of Vice-Chancellors of Universities of Jammu and Kashmir and complete the process soon. "The Chancellor has made it clear to the Search cum Selection Committee that inordinate delay in appointment of Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and Vice-Chancellor.
Sources said that selection of the Vice-Chancellors would be completed in a week or so following which orders would be issued.
They said that since lot of time has already been consumed in this process the chancellor wants the process to be completed soon so that there is no policy paralysis at both the universities.
It would be in place to mention here that more than 60 professors had applied for the post of Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir. The post of Vice Chancellor was advertised on 27-2-2018 and re-advertised on 30-4-2018.
The tenure of incumbent Vice Chancellor ended in October 2017 and since then the University of Kashmir is looking for a new Vice-Chancellor.
