Early Times Report

Jammu, July 29: In what could be termed as misuse and abuse of government infrastructure, the apathy of officials concerned has reportedly led to the rule of private coaches on government skating rink.
Parents of the budding skaters accused couple of private coaches at J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC) owned Skating Rink at MA Stadium, Jammu, of monopolizing the infrastructure and harassing skaters.
They said that main responsibility of the coaches is to enable their athletes to attain levels of performance not otherwise achievable.
"Coaches need to motivate athletes and establish the right conditions for learning. Effective coaches have many skills. They should, for instance, be good communicators and have a working knowledge of the learning processes, and of the teaching methods, training principles, and assessment procedures associated with their sport", they asserted.
However, in J&K contrary to this few so self-styled coaches have been allowed to use government infrastructure in speed skating. "At present, private coaches are making fool of the budding skaters", alleged parents of skaters, adding that they are charging hefty amounts from skaters. They further alleged that players and their parents are being harassed by imparting wrong techniques and charging hefty amounts on monthly basis and for sports equipment. They are providing low quality equipment to the players at exorbitant rates.
They have created an atmosphere where most of the skaters are feeling suffocated because they have no other option. All these coaches are non-skaters which is the main reason behind the slow growth of skating, especially Speed Sakting, in the state.
Being a non-skater coach is fine but their wrong knowledge and approach towards the sport is spoiling the future of skating in the state.
The JKSSC has deployed one coach for betterment of the game but these 'self-styled' coaches with the help of greedy officials of the Sports Council have managed to allow them to run their businesses from the Skating Rink. These persons have developed nexus with few officials in the concerned sports authorities in JKSSC.
"As government has absorbed some skaters in government jobs through sports quota of Skating and their services can b utilized", said a parent adding that these private coaches not updated to latest techniques of speed skating.
He further alleged that risks of injury to players have been increased as there are more than hundreds are skaters in the evening on 140 mtrs track with the support of these private coaches who are earning in lakhs by selling the skating equipment to the beginners and befooling parents.
"Most of the skaters are without admission cards and all are getting coaching by privately financing to these self styled coaches and officials of sports council", alleged parents.
They demanded that source of income as well as accounts transactions of these self styled coaches should be checked as they have established the business and this is open loot to the government exchequer as they are not paying the income tax.
