After Kashmir, Police crack whip on Jamaat activists in Kishtwar | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 1: After launching a major crackdown on leaders of Jamat e Islami in Kashmir following the ban imposed by the Government of India, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday extended the crackdown on Jamat leaders in Kishtwar district. The GoI has banned Jamat for its involvement in promoting militancy and radicalization of youths. "Police arrested three Jamat e Islami leaders including incumbent district president Abdul Majeed Shiekh, former district president Kishtwar Muhammad Iqbal Malik and another senior leader Ghulam Qadir Butt," police sources said. All the three leaders were arrested by the police by raiding there house at around 10:30 PM. The relative of one of the arrested leader while speaking to Early Times confirmed his arrest. "Arrested leaders didn't create any hurdles in their arrest and fully cooperated with the police team that conducted raids at their respective homes," he added. Sources said more arrests are on cards in Kishtwar district. Meanwhile, at least six Jama'at-e-Islami activists were detained from various villages in south kashmir's Tral area on Friday. Reports said the activists were detained last night and lodged at police station Tral. The fresh raids were conducted after the Government of India banned Jama'at-e-Islami (JeI) Jammu and Kashmir. "The JeI has been indulging in activities which are prejudicial to internal security and public order and (have) potential of disrupting the unity and integrity of the country," the ban order reads. Earlier, in a massive crackdown on Jama'at, over 200 leaders and activists were detained across Kashmir. |
