Early Times Report

Rajouri, Apr 18: An influential clerk of Rural Development Department Sunderbani has been occupying government accommodation meant for Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) for the last many years and moreover he has been withdrawing House Rent Allowance (HRA) illegally while the concerned AEE has been putting up in a private accommodation.
Sources told Early Times that a clerk posted in BDO Sunderbani of district Rajouri who has been discharging duty of a cashier has occupied government accommodation which is allotted to AEE.
The clerk is so powerful that even the concerned AEE could not get this accommodation and was forced to put up in a private building on rent.
"Misusing his position and contacts with higher authorities, the clerk has withdrawn HRA to the tune to lakhs from state exchequer but nobody dared to take action against this corrupt clerk, who has been openly flaunting his power," they alleged.
They further said that last year Director RDD had chaired a Public Darbar at Dak Bunglow Sunderbani and heard the problems of people where a person Dev Raj lodged a complaint against the clerk of occupying government accommodation and withdrawing HRA.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the Director forwarded the complaint to ACD and directed him to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, the BDO Sunderbani also confirmed that clerk has been put up in government accommodation meant for AEE. Although the director ordered to recover the HRA withdrawn by clerk but till date nothing has been done.
The concerned AEE, said that when he joined his posting here nobody handed over the accommodation to him and he had to take private accommodation where he has been living with his family.
The locals of the Sunderbani appealed to the Governor to take strict action against the erring officials and demanded vigilance inquiry in the matter in which lakhs of rupees were withdrawn by a cashier. They also expressed apprehension of involvement of other officials on whose instance the clerk managed to withdraw huge money.
