SRINAGAR, Mar 5: A pall of gloom descended over the family of a slain cop who was killed along with a civilian in a militant attack on Wednesday late evening at Warpora-Sopore in Baramulla district.
Hafiza Begum (60) mother of the slain cop is looking for his son that he may return to his home from duty, but there was something different in her fate, as she gave a final bid to his loving deceased son. The mother of the deceased cop is continuously saying, “who snatched you from us, my dear son, I am waiting for your return from duty”.
The slain cop is survived by the old aged parents, and three elder brothers among whom one is already working as an SPO in the police department.
“Wajahat Bhat 24, S/O Assadullah Bhat of Watergam Wagoora in Baramulla district, was a pious and God fearing boy, he was loved by one and all in his area, and in the coming years the deceased was about to marry, but that couldn’t become possible now, said relative of the deceased cop,” said a relative.
The relative said Assadullah Bhat, a labourer is shocked over the killing of his deceased son. “Once he heard the news of militant attack in Sopore yesterday, he couldn’t control his emotions and tried a lot to move in search of his son,” he said.
Amid tears the deceased cop was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Watergam Wagoora at around 1:00 in the midnight and thousands of people participated in the funeral. It is pertinent to mention here that, the militants fired on SPOs near bus stand at Warpora Sopore, in which two persons got killed on spot, while as another SPO got injured.
The civilian was identified as Umar Subhan 22, of Warpora Sopore. Another cop identified as Showkat Ahmad Khanday of Wagoora Kreeri sustained bullet wounds and is under treatment in hospital.
