By the way, where is Sajad Gani Lone?

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 5: A month has passed since Peoples Conference Chairman and former minister and BJP’s former ally- Sajad Lone was released from custody and there is till date no news about where the freed leader is at present.
Lone was released by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on February 5, this year after he spent six months incarnation along with other political leaders of the erstwhile state that were taken into custody ahead of central government scarping Article 370 and downgrading the status of Jammu and Kashmir from state to a union territory.
Lone served as a minister in BJP PDP led colaiton government from March 2015 to June 2018. He discharged his duties as a minister from BJP quota and was seen by many as a chief ministerial candidate of the state BJP.
However, Lone decided not to join hands with the BJP during the parliament elections of 2018 and his party peoples conference fielded candidates from all three LS constituencies of Kashmir against the BJP candidates.
He was later seen criticising the BJP led government at centre over fiddling with the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, warning the party that any such measure was fraught with dangerous consequences.
Lone was taken into custody on August 5 along with other mainstream politicians. He was released on February 5, this year after six long months. However, he hasn’t been seen in any public meeting ever since then. In spite of being known as a tech-savy politician, Lone who has more than 40 thousand followers on twitter hasn’t made a single tweet since August 5 even though his colleague, Imran Ansari is quite active on the social media platform.
Pertinent to mention that on November 22, last year, when the political parties in Kashmir valley-NC and Congress declared support to the PDP to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, it was Sajad alone who fought against the move, strived to thwart it and claimed the support of enough MLAs to form the government of his own.
Talking to a new Delhi based New Channel, Lone, who served as cabinet minister in previous BJP-PDP coalition in the state, claimed that he wrote letter to the Governor, staking claim for the formation of the government only after he was sure that he had enough numbers in the kitty. “I don’t know about PDP and NC but we had numbers to form the government. Now when we have accepted Governor’s decision to dissolve the assembly, the PDP which is making cry of a thief should move the court of law,” Sajad said.
The PC chairman while responding to the question about him being involved in breaking the political parties and forming the “third front”, said NC and the PDP has no right to give lectures on democracy as the duo are themselves involved in undermining the democratic institutions of the state with impunity. “Whatever I did and I am doing is within the ambit of constitution and within the legal framework. However, what NC has done in the past was incorrigible and proved lethal for the state. It is they who rigged the 1987 elections due to which gun came to Kashmir and one lakh people died. PDP too was hand in glove with schemers to undermine state’s democracy in 1984 as well as in 1987. Therefore, they have no moral ground to question my actions,” Sajad said.
