Show respect towards martyrs | | | The government asking a widow of martyr, Ghulam Nabi Mir (Patel), to clear Rs 7 lakh rent for the accommodation availed by her and other family members in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has triggered an outrage. Patel was shot dead by the terrorists in Pulwama in 2018. He was a staunch nationalist and stood with the country when even the so-called big leaders of Kashmir disappeared from the scene. When he was murdered in cold blood, he was affiliated with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which unfortunately did not own him after his killing. Now, 2 years after his killing Patel’s family is being asked to vacate the government accommodation for the non-payment of rent. Every nationalist is a asking a simple question is this the way to treat the family of a martyr, who laid is life to for the nation. People across the country have come forward to support Patel’s family and have expressed outrage over the J&K government’s decision. Questions are being asked why the leaders of the other parties, including the National Conference and PDP are not being asked to pay the rent and why they have been spared? Why no eviction notice has been served to them and why the government is tolerating them? By asking Patel’s family to leave the government accommodation a wrong precedent is being set. Need of the hour is to come forward and support them so that a clear message is sent that the government stands by the widows and family members of the martyrs and doesn’t disown them. History stands testimony to the fact that prior to 2014, the government left no stone unturned to appease the Kashmir centric leaders, despite these leaders never showing any loyalty towards the country. Kashmir centric leaders since 1947 raised questions over J&K’s accession with the Union of India and left no opportunity to remind New Delhi that Kashmir is not a normal place. People like Patel, who swore by India’s constitution till their last breath, rejected Pakistan and separatist politics were never allowed by the so-called big leaders of Kashmir to grow. These leaders despite enjoying all the privileges always pointed fingers at New Delhi’s sincerity and commitment. Before asking Patel’s family to pay the rent the government should ask other Kashmir centric leaders to come clear on what they have done with the money which they received from Centre for the developmental works during the past 70-years. |
