JAMMU, May 21: While as students of government schools in this province confronting with the problems of non-availability of toilet facility, Director School Education Jammu has failed to utilize over 78 percent of funds allocated the last financial year for providing infrastructures in schools. “DSEJ failed to utilise Rs 51 crore out of Rs 66 crore funds last fin year for critical infrastructure in Jmu Div despite availability of building materials & skilled labor; Both directors to utilise Rs 160 crore this year.@ Rs 8 crore each for 20 districts across JKUT”, Principal Secretary, School Education, Asgar Hassan Samoon, tweeted this morning. Tweet is Principal Secretary’s is clear indication that higher-ups in the education department have adopted casual approach in providing infrastructure in government schools in Jammu province. Important to mention here that government schools confronting with problem of poor sanitation as 3,043 government schools, including 1,933 for boys and 1,110 for girls, have no toilet facility. Kathua district in the Jammu division, with a total of 341 government schools top the list of schools without the toilet facility for boys. As per the data available in Kathua district, as many as 341 schools, including 268 primary schools, 61 middle schools, 11 secondary schools and one higher secondary school, have no boys’ toilets. In the Jammu province, government schools in other districts without boys’ toilet included Jammu (54), Kishtwar (137), Doda (five), Rajouri (65), Poonch (237), Ramban (11), Samba (45), Udhampur (291). Government schools without girls toilets in the Jammu division include Doda (one), Jammu (47), Kathua (121), Kishtwar (132), Poonch (135), Rajouri (11), Ramban (3), Samba (24) and Udhampur (107). |
