The General Secretary apprised that Government of India, vide D.O No: Secy (SJE)/SD/2020/214513 dated13-04-2020 has issued ‘Advisory for Senior Citizen during COVID-19, providing for a number of D0’s & Don’ts. The step taken by the authorities is welcome in so far as it exhibits their concern for a major group of the Society i.e. ‘Senior Citizen’. As responsible citizens of the country, we assure the authorities to abide by the guide lines contained in the said communication. “Despite the fact that ours is one among only few registered NGOs in the State, active and working since the year 2001 for the cause of welfare of senior citizens of the State, nobody has bothered to even send a copy of the Advisory for Senior Citizen during COVID-19 to us. We have come to know of the same only few days back when some other organisation not concerned with it, forwarded a copy through WHATSAP”, they said, adding that in the time of Pandemic, the senior citizen are the worst affected as a class in many aspects. In view of this, as also, as mandated by virtue of ‘The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act, 2007, as amended by ‘ The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, there was dire need of having initiated some special steps towards facilitating better living for this class, in particular. But unfortunately this class seems to have been left to suffer. Prominent among those who joined the on-line discussion included A. K. Arora (Patron), J.S Sudan (President), Virender Kumar Gupta (General Secretary), Chander Parkash Dharmat (Vice President), S.K. Jain (Vice President), R.S. Broca (Treasure), P.N. Jalla Secretary, Er.
