Wonder women leading coronavirus war with perseverance | | | HARPREET SINGH SETHI EARLY TIMES REPORT
KATHUA, May 23: Suninderjeet never forgets to plant kisses on the forehead of her four year old sleeping daughter before leaving for her duty as she will not be around her baby for the entire day due to the tight work schedule which has become more demanding in the trying times of COVID-19 pandemic. While on her return to home late in the evening, Suninderjit again finds her little daughter napping in the bed. For the last over one month, this mother, Suninderjit, who is also a Tehsildar, has not got an opportunity to spend minutes with her baby due to her over engagement in fight against COVID-19. Tehsildar of Nagri-Parole, Suninderjeet Kour has been assigned the duty of Nodal Officer for the quarantine centres in district Kathua, where suspect women patients have been put to quarantine. From early dawn to dusk she has been engaged in COVID-19 duties in district Kathua, which is the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir and has witnessed major flow of stranded labourers as well as students coming from different parts of the country. Out of all these people reaching the state, all the women have been quarantined in the centres established for them, which are under the jurisdiction of Nodal Officer Suninderjeet Kour, making her job very time consuming. While talking to Early Times, she said “When I left my home my baby is still sleeping and when I return back she is again in the bed,” said Suninderjeet Kour, adding that for the last over one and half month, she didn’t get enough time to spend with her little baby. She says that sometimes, my daughter compelled her father to see mother but being involved in the frontlines at quarantine centres, I cannot touch her. “I steal some moments from the busy schedule and make a visit at home but cannot cross the gate. Being a mother, I want to embrace daughter in my arms but cannot do it”, Suninderjeet Kour explained, adding that she tried to console her by different ways. Suninderjeet Kour is not alone at the frontlines of the fight against COVID-19, there are many others, who are embodiments of grit and dedication and have doing their duties as brave warriors in district Kathua. Probationary Deputy Superintendent of Police Priynaka Verma, who is presently holding the charge of Station House Officer (SHO) Kathua, is another example of frontline corona warrior. Before holding the charge as SHO, she was performing her duties at Lakhanpur where thousands of people have been coming. Being a police officer, she also has to be on the line of duty round the clock. Another name in the list is SHO Women Cell Sanjeevni Jyoti who also works round the clock to implement lockdown. Sometimes she was seen teaching a tough lesson to the lockdown violators but at the same time, she sensitizes people about guidelines issued by government to fight against corona. There are many other women warriors in Health Department, Police Department, Safai Karamcharis beside others, who have been steadfastly working at frontlines in fight against COVID-19 but some political groups are only felicitating the top brass of the administration for their role in fight against COVID-19 and these women warriors have been forgotten.
