Poonch Admin sends Dy Director to quarantine centre | Relatives targeting ET correspondent on social media for publishing news | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 23: Taking cognizance of the news item published in Early Times with title “Dy Director ranked officer reaches Poonch from Kashmir; remains unchecked”, the Poonch Administration today sent the alleged officer, who had returned from Kashmir to Poonch district via Jammu and hid his travel history to escape quarantine period, which is mandatory due to COVID-19 pandemic. Sources told Early Times that the officer was so irresponsible that he didn’t disclose his travel history to save himself from quarantine period despite the fact that Kashmir has become hotspot of COVID-19 cases putting the his life as well as the other including his family members atgreat risk. “The most shocking part of this incident, which has come to fore that even the concerned authorities including police of various districts, who knew that he had been travelling didn’t inform the Poonch administration about the travelling of alleged officer,” they said further adding that by hiding information about the officer, the concerned authorities have committed punishable crime. Although when this information reached Early Times, it published the news item in its edition after which the concerned administration took action and sent officer along with two others for 14 days quarantine period. Astonishingly, irked over the news item, some of the relatives of alleged officer started maligning image of ET correspondents on social media platform and tried to intimidate him with their threatening comments. ET Correspondent alleged that they are targeted him by using fake FB accounts for disclosing the information about the officer’s journey from Kashmir to Poonch. On the other side, a larger section of society on social media platform appreciated the efforts of th ET for highlighting the news. SDM Surankote Salim Qureshi, when contacted, said that they took immediate action as soon as they got information from the newspaper and had sent the officer to a quarantine centre. Meanwhile, SHO Surnakote, Anil Sharma also confirmed that the officer has been sent to quarantine centre. Shockingly, when DC Poonch Rahul Yadav was contacted in this regard, he tried to avoid giving a response. Pertinently, a Deputy Director ranked officer reached Poonch from Kashmir via Jammu while reportedly he remained unchecked at various check points. “The officer was promoted on May 5, 2020 as Deputy Director and posted in Kashmir Valley. On May 7, he left for Kashmir and joined his new place of posting, meanwhile, he attended several meetings, as same was shared on social media by the officer”, sources said, adding that yesterday, he returned back from Kashmir to Jammu and today around 11 am he proceeded for his home town in Poonch district. “Almost all the districts of Kashmir division have been declared as red zones while Jammu region’s Ramban district on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is also under the same category. Udhampur and Jammu in Jammu division have also active corona patients. How, despite so many vigilant check points along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway he reached here while remaining unchecked”, sources questioned and added that the officer entered Rajouri district skipping main checkpoint Sunderbani, the gateway for the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. “Time and again, news of common people’s harassment by police at Sunderbani was in limelight, but the Dy Director, who prior to his promotion had served in district Rajouri got rousing welcome there rather being checked as per the protocol”, they said. |
