Early Times Report
Jammu, May 23: Contrary to the tall claims of authorities, functioning of the quarantine centres set up for returnees is marred with chaos, confusion and mis-management. Majority of the inmates of these quarantine centres have been facing hardship and mental torture because authorities have misplaced, rather lost their samples and being asked to go for test again. A youth who returned from Bhopal was shocked when he was informed that report of his Covid test- conducted at quarantine centre, was missing. He was asked to wait and stay at the same quarantine centre for fresh test, to be conducted ‘very soon’. After struck-up at Bhopal for two-month due to nationwide lockdown, the helpless youth was hoping to meet his family after completing all formalities as early as possible but to casual approach of the authorities he has go for fresh test and his hope of meeting his family members have been dashed. Situation in all quarantine centres is same due to casual approach being adopted by those who are manning these centres. Inmates of these centres are complaining that reports or samples of their tests have been replaced and there was no one to address their woes. It is widely alleged that s Functioning of these centres mar with chaos, mis-management. Reports of tests misplaced due to lack of coordination among different agencies. Officers shift blame on each other for prevailing mess in quarantine centres’. me influential persons, who returned from different parts of the country, have managed home quarantine without waiting for the reports of their tests while those who don’t have any approach have to go for tests after tests without any fault on their part. Reports from most of the quarantine centres have been misplaced or disappeared due to lack of coordination among different agencies. Instead of locating the reports, authorities are asking inmates of these centres to go for fresh tests. Shockingly there are many chronic diabetes patients and children in these centres who were told on their arrival that they would be allowed to meet their families only when their test reports are received. One youth who returned from New Delhi by train on May 16, said, “Our samples were collected at the Jammu railway station. Later our group was shifted to GCET Kot Bhalwal for quarantine with the promise that the test reports would be available in two days. But it’s now seven days. Nobody is saying anything when we will be allowed to shift to our homes.” The authorities have so far not taken any step to clarify the issue, leaving people angry. There is a lot of resentment about the “apathetic” attitude of the authorities. |
