Mehbooba, her ‘corrupt’ BJP ministers sabotaged AIIMS in Jammu
9/20/2020 12:30:03 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 19: While addressing a rally at Jammu on June 23, 2018, within week after breaking alliance with People Democratic Party (PDP), Union Home Minister and then BJP national president Amit Shah had admitted that Union Government had sanctioned AIIMS for Jammu but Mehbooba Mufti had created hurdle in acquiring land for the project.
“Modi Sarkar ne Jammu aur Srinagar dono ko AIIMS diya, lekin PDP sarkar ne Jammu mein AIIMS ke liye bhoomi acquire nahin ki jiske kaaran is par Jammu mein kaam shuru nahin ho paya (Modi’s government announced AIIMS for both Jammu and Kashmir, but the PDP government did not acquire land in Jammu),” Shah had stated while addressing a rally in connection with the martyrdom of late Dr Shyama Parshad Mukherjee.
This statement of Amit Shah was a clear indication that the PDP-BJP government had created hurdle in setting up AIIMS at Jammu. After outbreak of Corona pandemic there is feeling among people of Jammu that if land was acquired on time AIIMS would have been functional in Jammu. “Had BJP ministers in the previous PDP-BJP regime shown some guts, AIIMS would have been functional now and lives of many people would be saved”, many people observed so. During the last 15 days many people have lost their lives due to crumbling of health sector in Jammu province. There is feeling among people that along with Mehbooba Mufti, BJP ministers in her government were equally responsible for COVID deaths in Jammu.
Instead of serving the interests of the people of Jammu region, all BJP ministers in the PDP-BJP government meekely succumbed before her follow the dictates of Mehbooba Mufti just to remain in power to mint money and enjoy perks and privileges. AIIMS was sanctioned for Jammu in the year 2015 but during the three long BJP ministers in the government failed to even show guts to get the land acquired.
It was only after breaking of PDP-BJP alliance that the land identified for AIIMS was ultimately evacuated and authorities started fencing of the land. AIIMS of Jammu was victim politics due to spineless leadership of Jammu. First AIIMS was announced for Jammu in the year 2004 by the then NDA Government but it was later converted into Super Specialty Hospital. On February 28, 2015 the then Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during his budget speech, had sanctioned AIIMS for J&K. On April 10, the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, had stoked a controversy after he declared that the AIIMS would be set up in Kashmir only.AIIMS Coordination Committee started agitating against shifting of AIIMS from Jammu to Kashmir in the month of April 2015. After three months long agitation, the Union Government had announced AIIMS like institutions for both Jammu and Kashmir regions.
