14 years on, Kangoloo-Pachound road yet to get completed

ASHWANI SHARMA
EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Sept 19: Going at a snail’s pace, the construction of Kangoloo-Pachound road is yet to get completed even after passage of 14 long years.
The work in hand may take more time as the completion of the project is nowhere in sight as the construction of this ill-fated road is perhaps has the least priority for those at the helm of affairs.
Work on the Kangoloo-Pachound road in tehsil Latti of district Udhampur was started in the year 2006 and presently the road is as dilapidated as it was before start of the construction work which clearly reflects the sincerity of the work culture of the concerned authorities.
“PMGSY Ramnagar is the agency which is executing the construction work,” said Akshay Malkan, Panch of Pachound.
He said that even earth work on the stretch has not been done in the 6 km part of the road and whenever the work on the road starts it gets halted within days on pretext of snowfall.
“This lackadaisical attitude of the concerned authorities is depriving people of the area from road connectivity,” the Panch said.
He appealed to the higher authorities to address the issue as soon as possible as the people are facing a lot of problems in the absence of a smooth road link.
When contacted, the PMGSY Executive Engineer Ramnagar, Satish Bhagat said that of the 16 km road, earth work on first stretch of 10 km is complete and for the remaining 6 km stretch there was some issue of clearance with the forest department which has now been sorted out.
The Executive Engineer also said that he has joined the department just a month back and assured that the issue will be resolved soon.
“By December this year the road will be completed in all respects,” he maintained.
