JAMMU, June 22: Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Awardee, National School of Drama Repertory artist, theatre actor, director and costume designer, Daksha Upadhyay featured today at Natrang’s National Theatre Talk Show, ‘Young Voices of Theatre’ at the Facebook page of Natrang Jammu where she shared his inspirational thoughts with the global audience. A native of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, Daksha has been continuously active in theatre for the last 20 years. Daksha has also been awarded Junior Fellowship in Folk Theatre by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India in the year 2014. She is also active in Children’s Theatre since last 10 years and has the credit of conducting several theatre workshops under the aegis of Hindi Academy, Delhi, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi, Punjabi Academy, Delhi and directing more than 25 children plays. After completing one year Diploma in Acting from Himachal Cultural Research Forum, Mandi, she worked for 3 years as an actress in Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, Delhi and later worked as an actress in National School of Drama Repertory Company for 6 years. In an enriching conversation with Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee actor and Natrang’s senior artist Anil Tickoo, Daksha narrated her eventful journey of theatre which started through a children workshop in her early childhood. She recalled many memorable experiences of doing theatre at different places including performing at Jammu. Daksha, who is doing regular and meaningful theatre with children, spoke in detail about the process of doing relevant theatre with children. She believes that theatre plays a vital role in developing the overall personalities of children and also appreciated that it has got the requisite space under the New Education Policy. The need is to utilize it appropriately with diligent theatre trainers. Speaking about the covid crises, Daksha asserts that no doubt it is a very tough time but still one could utilize it for his/her personal growth and self-analysis so that the same is inculcated in one’s performance when the things get normal.
