All Party Meeting: Kashmir based parties tread a cautious path | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 22: Amid the political stir prevalent in Jammu and Kashmir due to the scheduled All Party Meeting called by Prime Minister Modi on June 24, the Valley-based political groups seem to be taking every step with extreme caution and care. Sources within various Kashmir based political parties divulge that the sudden softening of the stand is not due to the abrupt change of heart but because of the past mistakes due to which the situation for the political groups in Kashmir turned tumultuous both within as well as outside. There was a time when the political parties even boycotted and rejected to be the part of Municipal and Panchayat. However with time, these groups have realized that by adopting a confrontational attitude, they are only inviting troubles for themselves. “These groups are ready for whatever they are being offered. They are now in the frontline to participate in talks even when they have absolutely no idea what the agenda of the talks is going to be,” said a leader associated with the PAGD. As per the reports, there are also chances that these political groups would shun the confrontational attitude and play a constructive role in the Central Government’s policies vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir. “The Central Government would in fact want them to be part of the development process and play a positive role instead of becoming mere opponents who have to oppose anything or everything. The Centre wants these political groups to participate in the greater democratic process,” said a Kashmir-based senior political leader. Meanwhile, sources said that there was not any prolonged discussion by the Kashmir-based mainstream political parties over taking part in the All-Party Meeting. In fact, there was a readiness of sort witnessed in their approach. Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone had tweeted: “There is a lot of pain and suffering prevalent in J&K. There are many harsh ground realities that the Prime Minister should be aware of. We feel that we must inform the PM about it. We believe that as political workers we are duty-bound to facilitate movement towards restoration of democracy and empowerment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Post-August 5, 2019, there is a dire need for scripting a new social contract between Delhi and the people of J&K to address the aspirations of the people here.” |
