GDC Chenani organizes webinar on role of law to manage environment | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, June 22: Government Degree College (GDC) Chenani under the auspices of its NSS unit Prayatna and Career Counselling Cell organized a national level webinar on the “Role of Indian Legal Regimes for Effective Environmental Management in India” on 22nd June 2021. Prof (Dr) S Ganapathy Venkatasubramanian, Professor of Environmental Law and Management, Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu was the resource person of the programme. Prof S Ganapathy stated that management of both environmental and natural resources in a country like India has become more urgent in present times. Every industry feels the necessity of sustainable development management. He said it is worth mentioning in this respect that the Indian constitution imposes as one of the fundamental duties of every citizen to protect and improve the environment. Further, several laws have been made relating to the environment in India like Wildlife Protection Act, the Forest Conservation Act, Public Liability Insurance Act and Biological Diversity Act of 2002. Dr Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College stated that environment protection has become a very common subject of discussion all over the world. With the advent of liberalization, it has become essential to internalize the cost of environmental degradation. She emphasized that environmental degradation calls for diligent management of the environment which in turn is indispensable for sustainable development. The programme was organised by Prof Mir Hafeez. |
