Babus out to crush Jammu’s economy
Schools can reopen with 50% attendance but banquet halls spread over 40 kanals can accommodate only 25 persons

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 6: Jammu and Kashmir administration has ordered the reopening of schools for students of class 10th and 12th with 50% attendance on a given day. But the helmsmen are adamant on not allowing more than 25 people in banquet halls across Jammu region. “The banquet halls in Jammu are spread over 40 kanals of land and social distancing can easily be maintained even with 50% capacity but the officers running the system seem in no mood to allow the revival of business activities in Jammu region,” said a businessman. He said, “The owners of the banquet halls are unable to meet the expenses they have been incurring. The helmsmen seem in no mood to relax the restrictions. In Kashmir grand weddings are taking place and there is no capping. All rules seem to be applicable in Jammu only. It appears that the bureaucrats have some bias towards the business community in Jammu region and are hell bent upon ruining the economy of the region.” Most businessmen are of the opinion that the government should allow the banquet halls in Jammu region to operate with 50% capacity as the wedding season is approaching. “If the bureaucrats keep on crushing us we will turn bankrupt,” said a trader.
