Jammu, Oct 17: With just two days remaining for the filing of nominations for the Budgam and Nagrota Assembly constituencies, tensions between coalition partners National Conference (NC) and Congress have escalated, threatening the unity of their alliance. Intense negotiations are underway to reach a consensus on candidate selection for the two seats, as the deadline looms.
According to highly placed sources, serious differences have emerged between the NC and Congress after the NC reportedly refused to allocate a safe seat to its coalition partner in Rajya Sabha elections. The disagreement has sparked concerns about the stability of the alliance, prompting the NC leadership to launch a damage control exercise to mend ties with Congress.
In a bid to placate the Congress, sources indicate that the NC is likely to concede the Nagrota seat to its coalition partner.

Banihal (Ramban), Oct 17: A portion of a protection wall along the Jammu–Srinagar national highway collapsed in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, disrupting vehicular movement, officials said on Friday.
Around 40 metres of the wall along with the adjoining Sawni panchayat link road, caved in on Thursday night.
Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Shubham Yadav, said a 40-metre section of the back wall had been damaged.
“One tube of the four-lane highway has been closed. The cause of the erosion is yet to be ascertained,” he said.

SRINAGAR, Oct 17: The Meteorological Department (IMD) today said that Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness mainly dry weather conditions over the next several days, with only a brief spell of very light snowfall expected over isolated higher reaches of north Kashmir during the coming week.
According to the MeT forecast, generally dry weather is expected across the union Territory on October 17, 19, and 20. The weather may turn partly to generally cloudy during the afternoon or evening hours on October 18 and 21.
