| Another setback to Police | | Court acquitts accused involved in Delair Mehandi Night Blast at General Bus-Stand | | | Jammu, October, 31:- Third Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Wani ND today acquitted five accused facing trail in Delair Mehandi Night Blast at General Bus-Stand in which 15 persons died on spot and 72 injured. This is second set-back to the state police within two days in which two most important and much publicized cases regarding militant activities failed in the court of law.

| Soldier kills Lt. Col | | | |
Srinagar: A top Army official has been reported killed by his junior following an altercation over some matter at Harwan near Srinagar on Tuesday.
Army spokesman Col Hemant Kumar Joneja said that sepoy S C Behera of 28 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) opened fire at his company commander, Lt Col Saket Saxena, following an altercation over some matter at Harwan, about 18 km from here, this morning.
He said while Col Saxena died on the spot, the jawan was overpowered by his other colleagues and arrested.
Col Joneja said an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Srinagar, Oct 31 Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) arrested a senior official of the Lakes and Waterway Development Authority (LAWDA) under prevention of corruption act after huge assets were recovered from his house during a raid, an VO spokesman said today.
He said the officer Ishrat Aslam Shah, an Assistant Enforcement Officer and in charge of demolition squad of the LAWDA, was found in possession of huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Giving details about the raid, he said VO officials raided the house of Shah at Ishber Nishat, on the bank of famed Dal Lake.

In his first public comment on the issue, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday claimed he did not seek clemency for terrorist Afzal Guru.
But he confessed he did not contradict these reports because it helped him check the agitation in his state against capital punishment for the man who had masterminded the attack on Parliament House.

| | | | Admiral Sureesh Mehta takes charge as new Naval chief | | | | New Delhi, Oct 31 Much-decorated naval fighter pilot Admiral Sureesh Mehta today took over as the new Chief of Naval Staff, saying that he visualised a "much bigger role" for the force operating its flotilla in distant waters far away from Indian shores.
"It will be our endeavour to operate in waters far away from home," the new naval chief said in significant remarks soon after taking over the reins of the top office from Admiral Arun Prakash.
He said the navy was in the process of acquiring warships which would give it a longer reach and capability of operating beyond Indian waters.
