| No need to table sef-rule document in state assembly: PDP | | | |

The PDP has no plan of tabling
the self-rule document in the form of a resolution in
the state legislature.
"What has the Assembly to do with it ?" This
Counter question was posed by Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir, a former
Minister and a member of the committee which was
assigned with the task of drafting the self-rule
document in reply to a question.
Mr Mir said the self-rule document was a
peoples'agenda and the copies of the draft would
be
circulated among senior political leaders,public
men,intellectuals,MPs,senior leaders of national and
regional parties in the country.In reply to another
question he said that copies would be circulated among
the members of union cabinet,including the Prime
Minister.Ms Sonia Gandhi UPA chairperson would also
be
given a copy of the self-rule document.
He said that this was being done to explain the
contours of the idea and the agenda so that there were
no misgivings from any quarter.

The state cabinet,which met here yesterday, failed to clear two major proposals because of continued tussle between the PDP and the PDF backed Congress. The cabinet had taken up the issue
pertaining to the posting of senior superintendents of police to the recently created four districts in the Kashmir valley. The matter had been kept under the carpet for the last about one month.
When the issue was raised cabinet ministers expressed different opinion on the posting of persons with the result the matter was again deferred.

The National Conference leadership has altered its perception on the possibility of early Assembly election and now predicts poll on the schedule time, possibly during the middle of next year.
In an informal chat with newsmen here today President of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah, said “given the current circumstances the Assembly poll will be held on the scheduled time, middle of next year.” Hardly a few months ago both Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah has stated that since the coalition Government would fall under its own weight the state may go in for early election any time. However,Mr Omar Abdullah did not see now any reason for an early election.

With intelligence reports suggesting the possibility of "clandestine flow" of an unspecified number of Sikh extremists into some neighbouring areas of Punjab, the government of India has called for "effective" security measures in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.
