SEX SCAM MAY RUIN CONGRESS’S REVIVAL PLAN IN KASHMIR
7/1/2006 7:29:45 PM
Jammu, July 1 :- The sex scam has seemingly put spikes in the Congress plan of regaining its ground in the Kashmir valley. Though only one Congress legislator, Mr G.A.Mir, has been arrested on charge of his involvement in the sex scandal, his involvement, being considered close not only to the Chief Minister but to senior AICC leaders in Delhi, has given a setback to the Congress in Kashmir. Inside reports said that the CBI sleuths were preparing the ground for the arrest of several other congress and National Conference leaders and if it materialised the dream of the congress to gain advantage from the PDP and National Conference conflict may not be realised. When Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad took over as Chief Minister the Congress formulated a strategy that emphasis be laid on completion of development works in the Kashmir valley which could help the congress to gain support of people in the valley. Accordingly, bigger funds were allotted for the development schemes than in the Jammu region and all the NABARD projects had gone to Kashmir leaving people in the Jammu region high a...

Army expects upsurge in violence in J&K
7/1/2006 7:23:04 PM
From B L KAK NEW DELHI, July 1: The death of a Lt. Col. of Indian Army as well as three encounters with well-equipped militants in Kashmir in a matter of 24 hours have led the Army Headquarters as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs to expect an upsurge in violence in the troubled State of Jammu and Kashmir. Encounters with militants, significantly, came after the interception of messages from across the Line of Control (LoC). These messages talked of two important happenings round the corner. One, Islamist suicide squads, or fidayeen, will target Indian Army's unit headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir. And deadly operations will also be directed against the local police and CRPF u...

Centre's dilatory tactics affect BRO's operations
7/1/2006 7:21:54 PM
From B L KAK NEW DELHI, July 1: Even as New Delhi is universally known for its keenness to provide an alternate route to the trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh, lack of speed on part of governmental agencies has affected the operations of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). At a time when the Army authorites do not appreciate the go-slow tactics of the executive, the BRO has reportedly complained that little has been done by the Centre in spite of the fact that a list of requirements was sent to the govgernment by the BRO more than eight months ago. The Army needs the all-weather Manali-Leh road. Such a highway, it is officially explained, will mean a smooth logistical passage...
